The Psychological Association of the Philippines (PAP) is elated to share with you that the 37th Psychological Association of the Philippines Junior Affiliates (PAPJA) Annual Convention shall be held this coming April 24- 25, 2024!
With the theme “Moving Forward Towards a Global, Scientific, Ethical, and Socially Relevant Philippine Psychology”, the PAPJA Annual Convention shall be conducted online and will gather Psychology students in the Philippines for sharing of current developments in the field of psychology. Importantly, the convention is an opportunity for exposure of Psychology students to the practice of the profession through the keynote and plenary sessions, relevant workshops, and fellowship activities including contested events.
The Registration Fee is five hundred pesos (P500.00) to defray expenses for the virtual staging of the event, prizes for the contested events, and tokens for the keynote and plenary speakers as well as for the workshop facilitators.
Details about the mechanics of the contested events are hereby attached. More details regarding the registration, the convention program, and the portal for submission of contest entries can be found at the PAPJA Annual Convention website at www.papja.pap.ph. PAPJA 2024 CONTESTS
BEST UNDERGRADUATE THESIS
- General Guidelines
- This contest is open to Psychology graduates from recognized HEIs in the Philippines whose research work must have been completed during the Academic Year (AY) 2022-2023.
- The research paper may be an unpublished student thesis, or for schools with non-thesis undergraduate programs, a paper that is of equivalent breadth and scope.
- Each school is allowed to submit a maximum of three research papers.
Criteria for Judging
- Social relevance and contribution to psychology in the Philippines (40%)
- Methodological rigor (30%)
- Heuristic value and originality (20%)
- Clarity and writing style (10%)
How to Register
1. Go to https://www.papja.pap.ph. Click the Contest in the navigation bar. Choose Best Undergraduate Research.
2. Submit (upload) the following for each entry:
- Soft copy of the research paper including the Research Abstract that include: Research Problem, Methodology, and Significant Results (200 words, PDF file)
- Endorsement letter from the Chair of the Psychology Program/Department of the school indicating the significance or merit of the work to the PAPJA convention theme (PDF file)
3. Click the Submit Entry button once you have completed all the requested information
4. The student will receive a notification once entry has been accepted. For group research, the student contact person and his/details must be indicated.
5. Upon submission, the student grants permission to the Psychological Association of the Philippines (PAP) to use any of the materials that are deemed appropriate for the organization.

PSY-CLIPS: A Video-Making Competition
- General Guidelines
- The video entry shall focus on the Founders of the Psychological Association of the Philippines (PAP), i.e., its past officers and their accomplishments, in celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the association and inspired by the anniversary and convention theme: “Moving forward towards a global, scientific, ethical, and socially relevant Philippine Psychology”.
- This contest is open to currently enrolled undergraduate Psychology students in recognized HEIs in the Philippines.
- All contestants must be registered PAPJA participants.
- Each school is allowed to submit one entry.
- The video entry needs to have been created, written, directed, acted, and produced by the submitting team of students.
- Students may seek assistance in the video’s post-production, but the main idea and content must come from the students themselves.
- The video must not exceed 3 minutes.
- Any Philippine language or dialect can be used; however, the video must contain English subtitles.
- The video MUST not contain offensive elements, including but not limited to inhumane or overly sexualized content and foul or derogatory language. As much as possible, there should be no violent content unless justified in the video concept.
- At the end of the video, the following should be acknowledged in writing:
- School affiliation of the students
- Names of all team members and their specific roles in the video
- References and sources of materials used in the video

- Quality of Execution and Creativity (30%)
- Relevance (30%)

SONGWRITING:
General Guidelines
- This contest is open to currently enrolled undergraduate Psychology students in recognized HEIs in the Philippines.
- All contestants must be registered PAPJA participants.
- The original song entry can be a collaborative effort of the composer and the arranger, and recorded by a neophyte or a professional singer accompanied by an acoustic guitar or complete orchestra. The genre or style (e.g., Pop Commercial, R&B, novelty, etc.) is up to the student participant/s.
- The song entry must be relevant to the theme “Moving forward towards a global, scientific, ethical, and socially relevant Philippine Psychology”.
- Any Philippine language or dialect can be used; however, the song lyrics must have an English translation.
- The song entry must not exceed 3 minutes and 30 seconds.
- Each school is allowed to submit a maximum of two song entries.
Criteria for Judging
1. LYRICS (40%)
- Meaning of the song
- Choice of singable words/diction
- Effective use of imagery
- Relevance to the theme
2. MUSIC (30%)
- Stylistic coherence and appropriateness
- Formal design (integrity and unity)

- Choice of appropriate instrumentation (arrangement and singer/artists)

- Metric fluidity
